In the past 5 years, Joshua has directed 6 short films, produced the award-winning short film "Plush" (directed by Ryan Denmark) which won best horror short at Dragon*Con in 2011, produced a local commercial for Walmart (through VIMBY) and has had a hand in creating online video content for movie EPK sites for films such as the Oscar Nominated film Selma (created by dsire design).
Joshua fuses his diverse technical knowledge of web development and digital marketing with his production style to give him a well rounded approach to generating online digital content.
I have a way of filming things and staging them and designing sets. There were times when I thought I should change my approach, but in fact, this is what I like to do. It's sort of like my handwriting as a movie director. And somewhere along the way, I think I've made the decision: I'm going to write in my own handwriting.
A director makes 100 decisions an hour. Students ask me how you know how to make the right decision, and I say to them, 'If you don't know how to make the right decision, you're not a director.'
You have to steal a lot. You have to have a criminal mentality to be a film director.
The most amazing thing for me is that every single person who sees a movie, not necessarily one of my movies, brings a whole set of unique experiences. Now, through careful manipulation and good storytelling, you can get everybody to clap at the same time, to hopefully laugh at the same time, and to be afraid at the same time.
